Salams and Greetings All,
As you may (we hope) or may not have noticed, over the past couple of months, the team at emel have been working hard at building up our social media presence. We’re attempt to push out blog posts more frequently (now with the help of three brilliant interns who are working with the editorial team for a little while). However, we would like to publish and promote a lot more interesting features in the near future. We’d like to get a conversation going, with you coming to us with ideas and suggestions on how we can get these conversations, debates and discussions started.
Which brings us to our next point. Blog posts. We’d like a lot more of them, but before we can do that, we’d like you to suggest topics and areas to talk about. After we receive a good amount of suggestions, we’ll pick the best ones and open up the floor for you to submit your own thoughts and opinions on the subjects. The editorial team will go through your post, and the best write-ups will be published on our blog.
Let us know what you think.. or if you have any ideas of your own! You can send us topic suggestions as a comment below, or leave them on our Facebook page. I’ll open up a tread on our discussion boards for ideas.
Live long and prosper

I think a very interesting (and current) topic would be the GPU event that took place over the weekend. I know a number of people who argue that the GPU is ‘non islamic’ due to free mixing etc. And I noticed myself as I was walking into the ExCel centre yesterday that there were protesters, both brothers and sisters, who were holding signs that read “GPU IS HARAM” which obviously attracted alot of attention.
I think the debate of whether the GPU is ‘islamic enough’ is quite a versatile topic and each person would have a different opinion.
On the one hand you could argue against it and say that free mixing is prohibitted in Islam and the GPU do not do enough to cater for those brothers and sisters who would like some kind of segregation. Even the prayer hall is not segregated, with some brothers even having to pray behind sisters as I experienced myself yesterday.
However on the other hand some could argue that it is meant to be a family environment and therefore segregation would change the whole aspect of that. But again in a family environment I don’t think it is appropriate for brothers to be approaching sisters to attract them to their stall or for a sale etc, especially if they are with their fathers or brothers, again something I personally experienced yesterday too.
Personally I think the GPU is a great event that encourages muslims of all ages, races, cultures, to unite and represent the strength of the ummah to the non muslims, as the GPU is the largest muslim event in Europe. However saying that, I also believe that the volunteers/stall holders etc need to be set some ground rules about who to approach and how to do so, after all this is a muslim event.
There are tonnes more ideas and points I could make but I thought I would just suggest this topic and see what others may have to say about the issue!
Jzk!
Hi,
I think one issue of particular importance in today’s society is that of finding a suitable marriage partner through traditional means ie. using family/community networks and connections. More and more young people (of both genders) are finding it difficult to find someone who they see as being on the same spiritual and intellectual level as them.
A monthly his/hers column or blog might help those in similar situations to overcome their problems or help provide some guidance.

I have an idea for an article about our role as Muslims living in non-Muslim countries in improving the image and understanding of true Islam. Is just defending our faith and beliefs through camapaigns and online activities enough..Why doesn’t the Muslim media represent a powerful tool to counteract the misinformed Western media that paints all Muslims as violent, aggressive and unable to integrate? What can the Muslim media do to reach its goals.
What are the other indirect and informal ways that we can use to change this image?Don’t we, as Muslims, need to change some of our attitudes and actions in order to deliver the best results we can.
We can also talk about the Muslim husband or wife description according to al-sharee3a and al-sonna.
What about talking about a Muslim daily routine?
AOA its good what is emel about is i mean is that about totally ISLAMIC way of life y not if u please send me reply thank you.
[...] I wrote a blog post a couple of days ago, asking you to send in your suggestions for topics and themes to start a conversation. We had quite a few responses, and are awaiting a few more. The thread is still open on our blog post. You can find that here. [...]
Despite the huge diversity in Muslims around the world, how the Islamic Shari’ah shapes our culture…our fashion sense..our outlook…our lifestyle and incorporates some basic elements in our way of living.
Effectively raising awareness among people worldwide as global citizens towards the crucial importance of natural resource conservation and the dangerous effects of irresponsibly depleting resources such as their exhaustion in the long run….
Is the muslim world doing enough to keep up with developing and newly-emerging technologies?
Are Muslims willing to keep up their identity? What do the muslims…especially the youth identify themselves with in the 21st century?
how about something lighthearted or funny, revolved around muslim characters/lifestyle/culture etc
how about eastern society Vs western society…u know differences in way of thinking….difference of perspective…what exactly demarcates the two..
i would like it if we talked about love marriages and cultures vs religion in this. spouses should be allowed to choose who they would like to marry but unfortunetly due to culture this is not possible as we have the so called honour of the family and the idea of what people may think if a daughter was given away to a certain family even though she may be happy with the marriage proposal, i would really like if this issue would be discussed.
